How to change my profile and password

To change your profile, go to the menu: Account > Edit Profile. Enter your name, email, and desired password.

Note: if you do not enter a password, your old password will be kept.

How to change payment methods

Our software doesn’t allow for editing payment information after it is entered. To change your information, cancel your subscription and add a Sing for Joy plan again. You can follow the instructions under “How to cancel my subscription or close my account” and “How to add or change a Sing for Joy plan.”

How to cancel my subscription or close my account

To cancel a subscription to a Sing for Joy plan, go to the menu: Account > Manage Subscription. Click “Cancel Subscription” for the plan that you want to cancel. You should see a popup that asks you whether you want to cancel the subscription. Click OK.

There’s no need to close your account in order to cancel the subscription, and closing your account will make so you will need to sign in as a different account (or as a guest) when purchasing anything from our shop. But if you would like to, go to the menu: Account > Manage Subscription. At the bottom of the page, click on “click here.” Enter your password and click Submit. Your account will immediately be closed.

What level should I sign up for?

All levels of Sing for Joy currently give you access to the same information. However, you are charged per classroom that uses Sing for Joy.

What is considered a classroom? If I teach numerous grades, is that one classroom or two or three?

  • If you are teaching several grades in one music class, that is one classroom.
  • If you are teaching different grades or grade sections using Sing for Joy, count each separate class as a classroom.
  • If Sing for Joy materials are not a substantial part of your teaching materials for a class, but only an additional resource to supplement your actual curriculum, don’t count that as a classroom.

We don’t want to make this too technical, though. If you aren’t sure what you count as, just choose the one that describes you most closely.

Can my coteachers use the account? Can they join the email forum?

Yes. As long as you are paying for their classrooms (see “What level should I sign up for?”), other teachers may sign in to your account to access Sing for Joy. If you would like to add one or more of them to the Sing for Joy email forum, go to Teaching > Join Email Forum and enter their name and email address. They will be automatically added to the forum.

Using the curriculum

How to access classroom videos for teaching strategies

When you are signed in to your account, in the menu, go to Teaching > All Teaching Strategies. Go to the “Video Playlists” tab. If you would like to choose a specific video, in the upper right corner of the video you’re on, click on the small icon with three horizontal bars. Scroll through the list that comes up until you find the one you want.

Some sample classes can also be viewed under Teaching > Sample Class Videos (or if you are not signed in, this will appear in the menu).

How to find and download or listen to songs
  1. Go to Lessons > Kindergarten (or whatever grade for which you need the songs). Go to the “Songs” tab. (You can also find songs for all grade levels by going to Teaching > All Songs in the menu.)
  2. Scroll to find your song (songs are organized by alphabetical order).
  3. To listen to your song, go to the cell that is in the column (rhythm, solfege, or text) that has the aspect that you want to listen to. Click on the music notes icon. You should see a little media player appear in the box. Click on the play button.
  4. To download or print the sheet music and instructions, click on the icon in the “Sheet music” column. A preview should appear. However, if the song sheet downloads automatically, and you would prefer to see a preview instead, follow the steps for “How to preview pdfs in a browser” to change your browser settings.
  5. Click on the printer icon to print or on the download icon to download the song. (This part will differ slightly depending on your browser.)
How to find a specific worksheet, flash card set, or other file in the Lesson Plans

You can do this in one of two ways:

  • Go to the “Worksheets and Attachments” tab in the page for the grade you are teaching. Look through the attachments till you find the one you want.
  • Go to the “Attachments” column in either the “Lesson Plans” tab or the “Worksheets and Attachments” tab and filter for the file you are looking for. Use the instructions found in “How to search for songs or items using keywords.”
How to print lesson plans (or other things from a data table)

To print lesson plans or other things from a data table,

  1. If you are printing Lesson Plans, make sure that all Lesson groups are expanded, or they won’t print properly. To do so, hover your mouse over one of the lesson headers, somewhere near the lesson number. You will see three dots appear. Click on them and select “Expand all.”
  2. Go to the top of the table, where there are buttons for hiding, filtering, grouping, and sorting. Click on the three-dot menu and click “Print View.”
  3. Choose the options that you want. You will probably want to uncheck “Add view name as title” and “Include row numbers” and you’ll want to check “Wrap long text onto additional lines as needed.” You might want to print it in portrait mode. See below for a recommended configuration.
  4. Click “Print” and choose the printer settings that you want before printing.

More functionality

How to view the Modules page from the first year's version of Sing for Joy

Go to the menu and click “Classic” to view last year’s version of Sing for Joy. This view will be phased out before long, so it’s best to use the curriculum as taught in the tutorial video above.

How to preview PDFs in a browser

When you view the Teacher Manual page or look in one of the data tables for a song or teaching strategy PDF, you should see a preview of the PDF in your browser. This should work if you are using a Chromium-based browser like Chrome, Edge, or Opera. However, Firefox might need a tweak to keep it from automatically downloading the PDF.

  1. In Firefox, go to Settings.
  2. Search for or scroll to “Applications.”
  3. In the list of file types, search for or scroll to “Portable Document Format (PDF).”
  4. Click in the “Action” column. Choose “Open in Firefox.”
How to collapse lessons for easier scrolling
  • In the lesson plans, you can collapse lessons for easier viewing and scrolling.
  • To collapse one lesson, click on the downward-pointing triangle beside the lesson number.
  • To collapse all, hover your mouse over one of the lesson headers, somewhere near the lesson number. You will see three dots appear. Click on them and select “Collapse all.”
  • You can expand a lesson again by clicking on the triangle by the lesson number.
How to download the lesson plans

In the page for the grade for which you want the lesson plans, click “Download LPs.” This will download as an Excel file which may need some formatting.

Note: You can also click on “Download CSV” in the lower right corner of the table. However, this will not download the lesson number along with it.

How to search for songs or items using keywords

If you are looking for a specific item, but don’t know what lesson it’s in, you can search for it in the table where it can be found.

  1. Click on “Filter” at the top of the table.
  2. Click “Add filter”
  3. Choose the column you want to search, and make sure the search operator is set to “contains” or “filenames contain.”
  4. In the box, enter the text you want to search for.
How to change spreadsheet sizes
  • Columns can be made wider or narrower at the top of the spreadsheet by clicking the line between them and dragging it one direction or the other.
  • Row height can be changed by clicking on the icon of the box and lines with an up–down arrow beside it. Choose which height you want.
How to see more information or to open a whole table row at once
  • If not all of the text in a box is displayed, click on the box and then on the blue diagonal arrow in the upper-right corner of it.
  • To open a whole row in its own box, hover over it or click on one of the boxes in the row. You will see a diagonal arrow to the very left of the row. Click on this, and you can see the whole row in its own box. You can navigate to the next row by clicking the up or down arrows in the upper-left corner of this box.
How to view the Lesson Plan table for a grade on your mobile device

Our website is not set up to be used on a mobile device like a phone or a tablet. That’s because this curriculum isn’t intended to take technology into the classroom—just the materials and the teacher’s voice. However, it can be used on a mobile device with a workaround.

  1. Download the Lesson Planning Guide. To download the lesson planning guide as an Excel file, see “How to download the lesson plans.”
  2. Save and open this file on your device. You can also upload it as a Google Sheet and access it from multiple places.
  3. Songs and teaching strategies will not be included in the download. You will need to look them up on the Songs and Teaching Strategies pages or via the URLs provided in the sheet.
How to view a larger version of a data table

If you want to view a Sing for Joy data table in a larger format, go to the lower right corner of the table and click on “View larger version.”
