Our Goal
Our goal is to promote musical excellence with spiritual vitality. We intend to offer a deeper look into the purposes of music within the Kingdom of God, and to help equip His people to operate skillfully within that purpose. Our vision is that the Camp would provide theologically sound and musically competent training as a resource to the conservative Anabaptist community and would inspire a greater appreciation and capacity for excellent music that glorifies God.
We offer studies in general musical development, choral conducting, music education, congregational music, and composition. We also offer students a variety of choral performance opportunities including mixed and segregated ensembles as well as a touring chamber choir.
Philosophy of Music
Music is a universal language and a universal experience. It is fundamental to who we are as humans. Because music by its very nature engages and unifies the whole person—physical, spiritual, emotional, and intellectual—it thus affects humans at the deepest levels. As with all aspects of life, music is ultimately about God: “For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things.” As with all of life, however, our natural disposition is to divorce the delight of music from the Creator to focus not through the lens of sensory appeal, but on it. Consequently, as the focus becomes increasingly self-centered and humanistic, the divine design of music becomes distorted, crippled, and thwarted. Our natural bent tends away from the standards of truth, beauty, and goodness, whose essence is found in the person of Jesus Christ. We should therefore develop a healthy skepticism of our natural tastes and strive to inform and to train those tastes to delight in that music which actually is true, beautiful, and good. These realities call us to thoughtfulness and the pursuit of godly and godward excellence in music.
